I subscribed to The Wire recently. I've really enjoyed exploring the book reviews and articles. I noticed the project below because of a book review and checked it out. Its great. A very interesting idea. The music is composed through using a geological survey as a graphic score. Its of the land, and also draws on Northumbrian traditional folk music. Great use of spatialisation (although we can't really hear it properly on a computer!).

Absolutely devastated by the News of David Bowie's death. His music has been inspirational right through my life. What a genius. What a loss. I bought Blackstar in advance of it being released and have been listening to it, as well as watching the videos over the weekend. There are two videos on Youtube - Backstar and Lazarus. Masterful but dark and disturbing. It all makes sense now. Here's Blackstar below. RIP. New video showing a live laptop improvisation I performed with friend in December. Its quite dark - I'm on the right! |
